A Strong First Impression
The law of primacy is simple: what you learn first tends to stay with you. This course establishes the Pilot Rise standard before a checkout, solo flight, or aircraft rental, when an incomplete habit is easiest to prevent.
Organized online preparation delivers small but important details faster than repeating every one in the airplane. That saves paid instruction time and lets your instructor focus on judgment, coordination, and real application.
The course does not replace instruction. Your instructor will ask oral questions, watch how you operate the aircraft, and verify that you can apply what you studied.
Part of Our Safety System
The Pilot Rise Standardization Course is required for every Pilot Rise student, renter, and instructor. It covers the school-specific procedures, recurring mistakes, and details that we need every person to understand the same way.
The Pilot Rise Standardization Course requires the centrally configured passing score before solo or aircraft rental. Renters should complete it before a checkout flight.
Course and test settings are deliberately configurable as the safety program evolves. Completion creates a record for Pilot Rise and emails a result to the learner.

FAA Knowledge Test Preparation
These Pilot Rise courses teach our preparation and operating standards. For comprehensive Private Pilot and Instrument Rating knowledge—including preparation for the FAA written exams—use our partner, Gold Seal Online Ground School. The first few sections of Gold Seal are free to try, and we highly recommend completing those lessons before or during your first few flight lessons.
Written Test Prep After Private
After your Private Pilot certificate, we recommend Sheppard Air to prepare for FAA written tests such as Instrument, Commercial, and later certificates or ratings. We do not recommend it for the Private Pilot written.
Sheppard Air is test preparation, not a ground school. It is designed to prepare you for the written exam; it does not teach the underlying aviation knowledge. Learn the material through a complete ground school and use Sheppard Air to prepare for the test.

No. You can study every module without entering personal information. Your learning progress is saved locally in your browser. Name, email, and phone are requested only when you start a final test.
Yes. Every course provides a direct path to its final test. The test is open book, so you can also keep course content open in another tab.
No. Online completion verifies the knowledge portion. An instructor still evaluates your understanding, decisions, procedures, and aircraft operation.
The Pilot Rise Standardization Course requires the displayed passing score before a student solos or a renter operates a Pilot Rise aircraft.
