What Happens on a Discovery Flight in Dallas & Fort Worth?

A Pilot Rise Discovery Flight is a 30-minute introductory flight lesson with a certified flight instructor in Dallas or Fort Worth. Sometimes called an Intro Flight or Introductory Flight, it has a standard price of $150 in either the Cessna 150 or Cessna 172. The current Dallas Executive special is shown above when available.

It is a good fit if you are brand new to aviation, comparing flight schools, buying a gift for a future pilot, or trying to understand what Private Pilot training would actually involve before committing. If you are already comparing programs and budget, you can also review our Courses, the Cost Planner, and Financing before or after your flight.

What Is Included

What your discovery flight includes

The goal is to give you a useful first look at flying and the training process, not overwhelm you with aviation jargon.

Instructor Briefing

Meet your instructor, talk through the aircraft, and get a plain-English overview of what to expect before you fly.

Preflight Walkaround

See how pilots inspect the aircraft before each flight and learn why safety habits start before engine start.

Hands-On Flying

Once airborne, your instructor can let you take the controls and experience basic aircraft control under supervision.

Training Conversation

After the flight, ask questions about cost, timelines, aircraft choices, scheduling, financing, and the next step.

How It Works

Simple booking, useful time with an instructor, and a clear next step.

  1. Book online, choose Discovery Flight, and note your campus or aircraft preference if you have one.
  2. Our team confirms the schedule and helps with basic arrival details.
  3. Check in with your ID, meet your instructor, and review what will happen during the flight.
  4. Fly the aircraft with instructor guidance, then talk through training options afterward.

I wouldn't be an airline pilot without this flight school. I did my private, instrument, and commercial with Pilot Rise. I wish I would've found them sooner. Could've saved me a lot of headaches, money, and restarts.

The flight portion is 30 minutes. Plan about 1.5 hours total at the airport for check-in, briefing, the flight itself, and time to ask questions afterward.

Do I get to take the controls?

For arrival notes, scheduling terms, and the current preflight checklist, review Before Your Discovery Flight.

How do you choose which aircraft I fly?
